AIDS Awareness Day : Key Points that you should not miss

HIV AIDS , an undoubtedly deadly diseases has taken the world by storm in the recent decades . A person infected by HIV AIDS finds weakening of his/her immune system , which eventually leads to susceptibility to all kinds of other diseases . 

Here are a few key points that you cannot afford to miss , to stay safe .

  1. HIV is spread from one person to another:
    • by having unprotected sex with an infected person
    • through contact with infected blood
    • from an infected mother to her unborn or newborn baby (but only some babies born to infected mothers become infected with HIV)
  1. You cannot be infected with HIV in other ways.  For example, if a person with HIV coughs, he/she cannot pass on the virus.  If you hug or touch a person with HIV you cannot get HIV.

Local Trains with automatic closing Doors - Soon to be a Reality !


Trains with Automatic Closing Doors are just a few weeks away from being a reality . Mumbai Locals , popularly known for overcrowded , packed trains ; may soon have no people hanging out of the doors , if everything goes as per the plan . Initially a train with three boggies having closing doors will be put to trial run . Commuter's response to the new automatic closing door system will decide whether the plan will be executed or not . 

The controls will be handelled by the train driver . Only the doors facing the platform will open . The doors will open only after the train comes to a halt completely ( bringing the run & catch fashion to an end ) . 2.8 Lakh People use Metro Daily !


Six months since the service opened to public, the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line has found a steady stream of takers among commuters who earlier used BEST buses and the suburban railway system. Now, in December, on an average, 2.8 lakh passengers take the metro everyday—an increase of almost 20,000 passengers per day since September.

The Metro services began on 8th June , 2014 . The metro has been serving the crowded areas of Andheri and Ghatkopar . People have started finding the Metro services as an important East-West link . Many train commuters who earlier used to interchage between Western & Central Lines at Dadar , have also shifted to the Metro .

Twin Tunnels through Basalt Rock , a hurdle for Mumbai Metro 3


Being the first underground metro corridor of Mumbai , hurdles , challenges and delays are an expected event . Mumbai Metro Line 3 will have to go through numerous tunnel boring challenges before becoming a reality . 


  Unlike underground metro projects in other Indian cities, tunnels in Mumbai have to be carved out of basalt rock. Things could become worse if there is a mixture of rock and soil . Keeping these hurdles in mid , the Authorities have asked for Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) with certain specifications .

Most underground stations will be built using the cut-and-cover method, except for the ones at Hutatma Chowk, Kalbadevi and Grant Road, which will be constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method.Currently , the tndering p…

Monorail Line II On Track , expected to begin by Decemer 2015

  Monorail Line II , which stretches from Wadala to Jacob Circle , is now on track ! The project has received approval for construction on the Currey Road Bridge . The Monorail steel bridge above Harbour Line Tracks at Wadala is now at a good stage . 

Except for Jacob circle and Lower Parel Station, all other Stations on Line 2 are structurally complete. Roof work , staircases , external plastering and all other works are complete. Installation of Electronic equipments like digital indicators and ticketing machines , to be installed inside the stations is underway.

Western Coastal Road Construction may begin Next Year !


  Western Suburbs , Mumbai :

The construction of the coastal road along the Western fringes of the city is likely to begin next year . It's Bhoomipoojan is likely to be held on 19th February , alongwith Chhatrapati Shivaji Statue in the Arabian Sea .

In a significant boost to Mumbai's coastal road plan, which has the potential to decongest traffic on the western corridor, the central government has given in-principle approval to amend the CRZ (coastal regulation zone) notification in a way that some coastal stretches can be reclaimed to reduce the cost and time of implementation, ensuring there is a lesser burden of toll on Mumbaikars.
