Jeejabai Bhosle Marg, the official name of the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR) or the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road (MGLR), is a road in eastern Mumbai connecting the suburbs of Mankhurd and Ghatkopar.[1] It is an important entry and exit road for the Eastern Suburbs and connects it to theMumbai Pune Expressway. The road is 4km long and 200 feet wide.[2] Construction on its main carriageway started in 2005 and it was opened in 2007.[3]

BRTS

On 7 September 2012, BEST announced that it would implement a bus rapid transit system (BRTS) with dedicated lanes on the GMLR.[4] Under the project, the GMLR will be widened to 60m and concretised. The project will cost 2070.3 million (US$38 million). Currently, there is a service road on either side of the GMLR's main carriageway[5] that is encroached upon due to unauthorised parking and storage of material by adjacent shopkeepers. The encroachments will be cleared, which will leave the stretch with four lanes on both sides, with the slip lanededicated for BEST buses. The widening plan involves concretising the asphalt service lanes and merging them with the main carriageways.Underneath reinforced concrete road, the BMC will construct lines for electricity, gas, water and telephone. As part of the plan, the BMC will also set up 2 box cells for utility services under the footpaths, one meant for gas pipelines, water mains and communication cables and the other for high-tension cables and other utilities. A reinforced concrete wall will be constructed at culverts and bridges after encroachments are removed, so that the embankment of the road and the new reinforced concrete box cell of utility services are protected.[6] There will also be 2 pedestrian bridges at Bainganwadi Junction and Shivaji Nagar Junction. When the Eastern Freeway is completed in 2013, traffic from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road will be shared with the Eastern Freeway, and will merge with GMLR near RBK School. GMLR will also help ease traffic on the Sion Panvel Highway.[7]Route information
