Kalyan Junction is a major railway junction station on the central line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network

lying at the junction of the north-east and south-east lines of the suburban Mumbaidivision of the Central Railway, 53 km north-east of Mumbai. It is one of the busiest railway station on India. It has halt for all the mail/expresses trains. There is demand for an upgradation of the station to an integrated railway terminal station,as Mumbai CST is already saturated to its limits.

The platforms at Kalyan are not fixed for specific direction. Platforms are 1, 1A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Platform number 1 and 1A are for Kalyan-originating 'UP' Local Trains.
Platform 2 used for 'DOWN' slow trains.
Platforms 3,5,6 for 'UP' as well as 'DOWN' slow/fast Trains.
Platform 4 for 'DOWN' Local Trains only.
Platform 7 for 'UP Local Trains only.

Express/Mail trains arrive at Platforms 4,5,6,7 only.

Nearby the station, there is also a Kalyan Electric Locomotive (Engine) Shed. It is one of the most important electric loco sheds in India as it manages two major railway arteries in the financial capital of India, Mumbai.
